Lambton’s Very Own

Sensory Garden

Lambton House is surrounded by beautiful sensory gardens and open countryside beyond its perimeter.

There’s something about having a beautiful outdoor space to spend time in, that helps us to clear our minds while improving our mood. Lambton’s sensory garden is not only a space that is beautiful to see and spend time in, but also somewhere that enriches senses, having a therapeutic effect on the mind.

The sensory design of our gardens make them an ideal place for dementia residents to spend time in. The garden aims to heighten senses of sight, sound, smell, touch and taste. We have stunning colourful Rose plants, sweet smelling Lavendar and home-grown herbs such as coriander, parsley and mint which add flavour and taste to our home cooked kitchen dishes. Residents can enjoy simple gardening tasks such as watering , weeding and feeding the many birds that visit our grounds.

We have an on site greenhouse with safe polycarbonate panel construction and wooden garden planters , built to wheelchair accessible height, which give residents the opportunity to grow , herbs, vegetables and flowers. Gardening activities help to create a feeling of purpose and accomplishment. Our gardens are also home to beautiful apple and pear trees with blackberry bushes also providing our kitchen team with autumn fruit for our menus.

In warmer weather, Lambton’s garden is used to host outdoor entertainment with visiting singers, bands and wildlife experts using it as the perfect setting for social stimulation events for residents and families to enjoy.

The sensory garden is also home to the residents Rainbow Tea Room and Pit Stop Bar.
